My first commission!!

What an amazing thing - I've been dreaming of one day being able to earn an income selling the things that I make, and that day came way sooner than I had expected! On August 21st, we had our local quilt show and car walk, and the same day I left for a week's vacation. To my surprise, I ran into a woman from the local shop (The Quilted Bear in Ladner, BC) at the Pacific West Quilt Show in Tacoma, WA, which we stopped at on our way home. To make a long story short, she told me that someone had called in wanting to purchase the Babes in the Woods quilt that I had made for my boyfriend (which of course, is not for sale, but how flattered was I?!?)...

After some telephone tag, the end result is that I have been commissioned to make a similar quilt, using the Babes in the Woods as the primary focus of the quilt, and I am being paid to do what I love - ohmygosh, how lucky am I?? I know that I am years away from reaching the dream of doing textile art full time, but hey, we all have to start somewhere, right? And another very cool thing, my Dad, who usually keeps me in suspense as to what his thoughts are, offered up the suggestion that I should sell the wristlets and hair kerchiefs that I make - if you knew my Dad, you would understand just how cool it was to hear this from him - he is a totally awesome guy, but never really says too much in the way of things like this...

So, while I am working on a few things at the moment, I will happily be adding my first commissioned work to my list of "stuff I gotta do" list; I'll put up a comparison when it's done, but in the meantime, I have a Dad who is proud, a sweetie who is stoked for me, and my very first customer, yippee!!

2 more flags

Life has been busy.. so busy in fact that all I have really wanted is in these two flags - time - to play, and time to just be me. The "play" flag is to remind me, and everyone who sees it, to remember the inner child, and to take time to play more often. The "time" flag is a prayer for myself, and for others who share these feelings - a prayer to allow time to come into our lives, and to let it work its healing magic, so that we can truly be...

Flag #2 - Play

Flag #3 - Time

Next week I will have time - time to play, and time to heal; I'll be on vacation, and am heading to Long Beach Washington. I need this time, and I will take everything that it is kind enough to give me...
