Wow, what an amazing couple of weeks; I feel as though I have been up to my ears in alligators - fundraising for school events, preparing fundraising for the 24 hour relay, and living life in general, just trying to keep up. I am also considering a blog migration, as it were, which would also include a new url. I've been learning what I can about WordPress, and so far I like it; it looks as though it would give me that "website" feel, allowing people to come in and look at what they are interested in, whether it be my encaustic and mixed media art, or my textile works.
I have to say, though, that this time of year is the busiest for me, as school winds down and summer plans are made. All through everything I have been trying to juggle, I have been feeling guilty for not posting more. This week, though, I came to the conclusion that it's okay to post less often, especially when I haven't had much time to create. I don't want to post on my blog out of a sense of duty, or a sense of fear that I might lose your attention; after all, I think I will lose it faster if I post for the sake of posting, rather than because I have something to share. So, this week has been filled with more busy and less guilt, with a bit of self care thrown in - I took my daughter to the spa on Wednesday, and we had our nails done, and it was good..
Another thing that has kept me from sharing what is new with you, is the fact that I seem to have misplaced my camera's battery charger, making it oh-so-difficult to show you what I have been up to. And, to prove that my life moves faster than my brains, today I finally realized that I can use my old camera to take pictures!! (after I charge it again, of course...lol)
So, here is my world in a nutshell: I have been too busy to get close to my fabrics, but have had a bit of time to finish some encaustic pieces. However, I am missing the feel of fabric in my hand, and intend to remedy that sooner than later. I took a big leap earlier this month, and submitted some encaustic work to a juried show in Brooklyn. Following my rejection letter, I was commissioned to make an encaustic piece, which boosted my confidence greatly. This piece is what garnered me a commission:
In the photo, it is tough to see all the metallic elements in the work, and currently, I don't know how to fix that... And here are a couple of pieces that did not get accepted into the Brooklyn show:

I still like them, though, and am enjoying the progression of my work with wax. However, I am feeling the lure of some beautiful batiks that I started working with in January, and need to get some work done for this year's quilt walk and car show...
This was a long post, I know, and thanks for bearing with me; as I mentioned, I hope to be able to split my subjects ups a bit more efficiently soon. In the meantime, I hope that you have been able to have enough time to be creative, and to enjoy the gorgeous weather that has been coming out recently.. And, if you know a way to get all the chores done, and make sure that there is enough play/art time left in the day to do all that as well, please let me know!! Happy crafting!!
